THE
DOLPHINS
(Woodstock Records 1996) |
|
Formed in New York 1987, The Dolphins are Dan Brubeck (son of the legendary Dave Brubeck) on drums, Mike DeMicco on guitar, Vinnie Martucci on synths, and Rob Leon on bass.
The Dolphins have succeeded in creating an engaging mix of traditional and futuristic jazz, drawing from both acoustic and electric music. This contemporary jazz ensemble based in Woodstock (upstate New York's famous music and art community) has
received worldwide recognition for their exciting live performances and innovative live-to-digital recordings.
The Dolphins third release, Digital Dolphins (B&W 1996) reveals the energetic chemistry that brought them together. The quartet have created a "dynamic blend
of jazz and rock rhythms, combined with interesting harmonies and concise melodies, all of which emerge in exciting waves of sound. The result is intriguing" (Jazz Times).
